Sadly, hackers are a reality that won't go away. Here are some tips that you can use to protect your website from an attack.

There is no such thing as a 100% protected unhackable website. But there are things that you can do to protect yourself against hackers.

Backups

Always make backups of your data. In a lifetime, it is very unlikely that you will not be visited by any hackers so I suggest that you make backups. This way, you can restore your website to the way that it was before the attack. No website is 100% unhackable so backups are essential. Don't think about risking it without making any backups.

Keep Your Scripts Up To Date

Every web script has security holes in it that are just waiting to be discovered. If you are using a CMS or script like Wordpress, for example, then you need to make sure that you keep it up to date when a new version comes out. There are hackers out there who just concentrate on lazy webmasters who do not update their scripts and they are easy pickings for attacks. Don't become another statistic!

Use Basic File Permissioning

If you are running a unix host (most people are) then you should use some basic default permissioning. This means setting your folders to 755 and your files to 644. Sometimes a program requires different settings but you should use this as a default. Never, ever, set a file or folder to 777 - you are just asking for trouble.
