Engineering and Technology Businesses Choose New PDF Security Service

Many manufacturers and distributors of complex equipment or products need to provide technical manuals, training materials and a range of other information to their salesforce, field engineering teams, contractors and customers. These are often highly sensitive documents and it is important they do not fall into the wrong hands. The Drumlin PDF security software and digital rights management (DRM) service has recently been selected by a number of major engineering firms specifically to deal with this issue in an extremely cost-effective manner.

UK (PRWEB) June 23, 2008 -- Distributing documents in a completely secure manner has long been a major headache for many engineering and technology companies. Drumlin Security (http://www.drumlinsecurity.co.uk/) have recently tailored their high-security PDF reader/publisher and DRM service specifically to meet the demanding requirements of this sector. A recent example is given by a company providing support for large earth-moving equipment: "I discovered that the built in security and the cost of the drm offerings from the major players both left a lot to be desired ... I investigated Drumlin Security's PDF reader and explained my requirements to them - specifically

1) need to batch convert 500 or more files
2) ability to convert large pdf files
3) need to convert password protected files
4) control of printing / copying and the need to prevent files being removed and remaining viable from laptops
5) ability to add to the secure library
6) ability to completely revoke rights on a machine to read any files.
7) be able to have granular control over which files would be accessible to each user / machine as required.

Pretty straightforward ? Well yes for the guys at Drumlin it was. After they had understood my needs they made some changes to their application to deal with some of the above and now I have a tool which not only does what I need but actually makes it a relatively painless process to boot……"

The Drumlin software and service ensures that PDF versions of documents such as books, market research reports, technical manuals, courseware, subscription newsletters, financial statements, contracts and similar materials can be distributed with complete safety. The fully secured version of PDFs created using the Drumlin software can be placed on a web site, CD or emailed to a user or customer without concern that they might be intercepted, read, decrypted or copied.

The "reader" features in the Drumlin PDF reader/publisher provide a full-functionality viewer for PDFs and secured PDFs. Its PDF handling is built upon the market-leading PDF software development library PDFNet SDK from PDFTron Systems Inc. (http://www.pdftron.com/) which supports all existing levels of PDF. Javascript and attached objects are disabled, ensuring that the Drumlin reader is not at risk from the widely reported problems of viruses associated with some other PDF readers.

The "publisher" facility in the Drumlin PDF reader/publisher strongly encrypts conventional PDF files with the option to ensure that they can only be read once they have been authorized. Even then, these files can only be opened on the individual PC on which they have been authorized - such files cannot be copied and read elsewhere. Drumlin's publisher facility enables many controls to be applied to such documents, such as enabling or disabling text copy facilities; setting start and end dates for viewing; and specifying the number of times a document may be viewed, and the number of times it may be printed (if at all).
